A genuine 2016 note from Exeter, the region’s former local currency. You could spend it interchangeably with Sterling, in businesses where you saw the E£ sign, and it supported their communities.

This note was issued on 30 July 2016 and expired 31 December 2016. The E£4.50 note was launched on Exeter Quay at noon on Saturday 30 July 2016 to mark the 450th anniversary of the Exeter Ship Canal. A giant note arrived at the Quay by boat having travelled along the ship canal from the Double Locks. Martin Goss, a director of the Exeter Pound, dressed in a Tudor merchant's costume of 1566 to recreate the atmosphere of the year when the canal opened. Goss presented the note to the Lord Mayor of Exeter in the Custom House. As far as we know it is the only £4.50 note in the world, and is doubly unusual having a canal as its main theme. The unusual hologram shows an anchor.
