A genuine 2018 local currency note from the Lake District. The Lake District Pound (LD£) is the region’s local currency. You could spend it interchangeably with Sterling, in businesses where you saw the LD£ sign. It supports their communities. Only local businesses accepted this LD£.
This note was issued in 2018 and was valid until 31 January 2019. The LD£1 is based around ‘Fun and Adventure’, featuring an artist’s rendering of Beatrix Potter as a child, as well as Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons and a view of the Langdale Pikes.
Beatrix Potter is the author of many books featuring animals as the main characters, such as the Peter Rabbit series. Arthur Ransome wrote a series of twelve books involving adventures by groups of children, almost all during the school holidays and mostly in England.
