Trial pound issued at the Tooting Foodival, September 2014

Transition Town Tooting has been in operation since 2008 and has run a sustainable food festival called Tooting Foodival every year since. At the 2011 Foodival, TTT decided to issue a trial note known as a Tooting 'Root' that could be used as a token in exchange for food. Copies of this have been very elusive, although there has always been a photograph of Sadiq Khan holding a small fan of them. As the book went to press, a single specimen surfaced, allowing the scan here.
At the following year’s Tooting Foodival, TTT ran a larger trial with Tooting Pounds, which could be bought with a pound sterling and used to purchase a dish cooked from locally donated produce.  Anyone doing this received a stamp on their Tooting Pound entitling them to an agreed discount at six local restaurants.  TTT did not proceed further with the initiative and the pound in the trial was not exchangeable for cash.
